INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SAFETY INSTITUTE 2021 (NOVEMBER 15TH – 16TH)
NEVADA TRACK WORKSHOP DETAILS
This pre-conference workshop will be held at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino on Sunday, November 14, 2021, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The workshop is included in the complete conference registration, and there is also a single-day registration for those who may not be able to attend the full conference.
Nevada has excellent school safety laws aimed at keeping schools as safe as possible. This includes a statewide anonymous reporting tool, a state model Emergency Operations Plan Template, and statutes requiring School District Development Committees and School Site Safety Committees charged with overseeing safety and emergency management at the district and school site levels. There is also a 15 School District Collaboration run by the State Risk Management Pool to ensure statutory compliance for the smaller districts in the state that do not have designated Emergency Managers. That innovative program has been in place since 2014 and can be used as a model for any state.
This interactive workshop will include presenters from the State Office of Education, the State Risk Management Pool, local school districts, and school safety professionals discussing proactive measures in school safety. There will also be a tabletop exercise addressing school response to a violent incident and emergency communications planning within a school district.
Nevada-specific school safety topics will be discussed in this workshop, but it is not only for Nevada attendees. There are no geographic lines for school safety, so what is working in Nevada can work in any state or country. Exchanging ideas and making new contacts is how we advance school safety and ensure we don’t leave what is discussed at a conference at the venue when we return to our jobs after the conference is over.
